Nurture Your Audience & Increase Sales by Creating A Welcome Sequence in Flodesk

As small business owners we put a lot of focus on growing our audience (and for good reason), but in this article we’re going to shed some light on the benefits of nurturing the beautiful people you’ve already attracted to your business. By creating a simple 3 email welcome sequence in Flodesk you can build trust with the sweet humans who’ve signed up to hear more about the beauty you bring to the world AND generate more sales over time.

Yay! But also what exactly is a “Welcome Sequence”?

A welcome sequence is a workflow automation you can set up inside of Flodesk to engage new subscribers as soon as they join your email list. Through a series of thoughtfully designed introductory emails, your audience can get to know you and your business on a deeper level. This is one of my favorite ways to build brand awareness and engage with new members of my community. The best part? It's all automated, working seamlessly behind the scenes with minimal maintenance required. It’s essentially a set it and forget it scenario, which we LOVE.

Establishing a welcome email (or sequence of emails) is something I highly, highly recommend you invest some time and energy into because your return on that investment is massive. Let me be your guide and simplify the whole process for you! Keep reading to see my tried & true 3 email format for welcoming new members into the fold.

Why go with Flodesk?

Let me tell you, I have tried several different email marketing platforms and Flodesk is the absolute best by far. It’s the most intuitive, easeful experience with tons of design options and brand customizations built right into their email builder, along with a wide-range of features designed to help small business succeed. (Side note: their mission statement is “to make small business owners more successful through good design and marketing.” – yes please!) It’s super affordable and the price doesn’t increase as your email list grows (unlike other platforms 🙃).

Insider Insight: Email marketing is one of the most important and underrated aspects of building a business in today's social media driven world. Unlike your social audience, you have a direct connection with your email list that can't be taken from you when those big servers get overloaded and crash (again).

Here’s how to write a truly nurturing welcome sequence

Let’s break down my tried & true three email format for creating a warm welcome to new email subscribers. Just click each headline below to read more details about what to include in each email.

  • ABOUT YOU: The content of this first email should be all about you! Let them get to know you on a deeper level, this doesn't have to be too extensive or uncomfy, but be brave and share about yourself. Use these prompts to guide you: who are you, what do yo create, why do you create it, how can they learn even more? Don't be afraid to show your personality here and don't forget to include visuals to keep them engaged as they read.

When I set up my workflow in Flodesk, I like to trigger this email to send immediately when someone signs up, that way you stay fresh on their mind! If you're confused about the specifics of how to set up a workflow in Flodesk I offer a FULL tutorial on this inside of The Collective.

  • SALES FOCUSED: Sell your work in a generous way. These people are on your list because they want to buy your things, give them what they want! Set the trigger for email 2 to send 3 days after email 1.

Mindset reframe: Email marketing is not spam! The people on your email list want to hear from you and you have the unique opportunity to send so much value and beauty directly to their inbox while also calling them to action (buying your beautiful product or service).

  • BUILD 'KNOW, LIKE, TRUST': This type of email fosters connection between you and your audience. Here you'll establish yourself as the authority on your field or practice. Let them know you're really good at this and you've devoted a lot of love, energy, and labor to your practice! I like to set the trigger for this email to send 7 days after email 2.

Don't forget to use CTAs throughout to direct them to your shop where they can purchase from you! Remember clarity is kindness so make the pathway to your product or service super clear.

Insider Insight: When writing your welcome sequence remember to keep things as evergreen as possible. You want to speak generally about what you offer and avoid linking to specific products that aren’t in your shop year round to avoid leading future customers to broken links and out-of-stock listings.

Already have a welcome workflow set up?

Use this same strategy to create a reengagement campaign for your email list! Reintroduce yourself to your audience and be sure to think VALUE. Include a free resource or incentive to shop and take some time to give a thoughtful behind-the-scenes look at your current studio project or upcoming launch.
